Discover the Scena Waalweg: a panoramic route between history and nature.
If you are looking for a pleasant hike in nature near Merano, we recommend that you try this circular route in the Scena area. This panoramic tour will take you through meadows, orchards and woods to the discovery of castles, breathtaking views of the Merano basin and the picturesque Waalweg di Scena. The Waalweg is a path that follows the course of historic irrigation canals, typical of the Merano area and beyond, which have recently been restored and made easily accessible to tourists.
The itinerary is well signposted and easy to follow, and along the way there are several fountains with fresh, drinkable water, perfect for cooling off on hot spring days. Furthermore, along the Waalweg, there is also a Kneipp point where you can refresh and regenerate.

ITINERARY
From the Funivia Taser/ Seilbahn Taser car park (825 m) cross Via Pichler and take a downhill dirt road marked trail no. 20. Once you reach the paved road, turn right and then take the first small road on the left following the signs for Sentieri d'acqua Meranesi/Meraner Waalrunde. Once in Castel Thurn (630 m) continue on the Sentiero delle Saghe/Sagenweg. Having reached point 3 of the sagas, go left and continue up to Castello di Scena/Schloss Schenna (590 m). Here you continue on the road and then side streets following the 10A sign. At a certain point, leave the 10A and take the 15, towards Funivia Merano 2000. You pass near Castel Gaiano/Schloss Goyen (610 m), Marienkapelle mit Einsiedelei (586 m) and the CP Hermitage campsite, reaching the Merano cable car 2000 (640m). Here you go left, cross a bridge and go right. After the Luis Egger company, turn left up the paved road in the direction of St. Georgen/Schenner Waalweg.
It passes above the village of San Giorgio/St. Georgen and in this section you follow the Sentiero della Roggia di Scena/Schenner Waalweg. Continuing you return to the starting point.
