The Vaia Dragon

DESCRIPTION
Easy excursion to Alpe Cimbra to meet the Vaia Dragon.
The wooden work of the Venetian sculptor Marco Martalar is located in Magrè di Lavarone (TN). The dragon was built between October and November 2021 using the wood of the trees fallen due to the storm Vaia that hit this area in October 2018. The artifact is very large: 6 meters high and 7 meters long, it is consisting of 2,000 pieces of wood and 3,000 metal screws. The path we have taken is easy and suitable for everyone. It allows, in addition to visiting the Dragon, also to take a comfortable walk seeing other interesting things of the place such as the Austro-Hungarian Cemetery and the Chalets in the area.

ITINERARY
From the car park in the Bertoldi hamlet (1197 m), take the asphalted road towards Slaghenaufi. After the village (1240 m) you go towards the Austro-Hungarian Cemetery (1270 m) and then go up to the Chalet Tana Incantata (1374 m). Here you follow the Sentiero del Drago signpost and in a short time, the distance is only 1.2 km, you will arrive at the wooden sculpture the Drago Vaia (1332 m). On the way back, you pass through the Chalet Cimone (1382 m).

HOW TO ARRIVE
A22 Trento Sud exit. Take the SS349 “Statale dalla Fricca” towards Lavarone. We pass the villages of Vigolo Vattaro, Centa San Nicolò, Carbonare up to Bertoldi.
