DESCRIPTION
A very scenic excursion in the Stelvio National Park.
If you want to do a 3000 without great difficulty, this is your excursion. It starts from 2500 m and the path does not present particular difficulties except in some sections for two reasons: first the path is not well marked and second on the ridges - from the bivouac to the peaks - you must have a steady step and absence of vertigo. From the bivouac, but above all from the peaks, you can enjoy a beautiful 360 degree panorama. Furthermore, from Pizzo Vallumbrina there is a beautiful view of the Dosegù Glacier. The Monte Ortles Battalion Bivouac is accessible. Inside there are six beds, a stove and a table with benches. The only drawback, the cleanliness.
ITINERARY
From the Arnaldo Berni Refuge (2541 m) we take path 551. After passing the Gavia stream and the former Rifugio Gavia, first go up and then down to a plateau crossed by a stream. You begin to see the Dosegù Glacier, Punta San Matteo and some beautiful waterfalls. You return to climb until you reach small glacial lakes. Last effort and you arrive at the Bivouac Battalion Monte Ortles (3120 m). Now take an unnumbered path and along the ridges you arrive at Cima Vallumbrina (3220 m) and Pizzo Vallumbrina (3225 m).
You return to the starting point for the same route.

AUTHOR’S SUGGESTIONS
The path is not well marked and in the presence of snow it is very difficult to understand where the path is. We recommend downloading the GPS track.
